This itinerary covers the essential Chongqing experience: the mind-bending 8D cityscape, incredible food, Yangtze River views, and a day trip to the spectacular Wulong Karst.
Day 1: The 8D City & Night Lights
Morning (9:00 AM - 12:00 PM)
🍜 Breakfast: Chongqing xiaomian (小面) at a street stall — this is how locals start the day 🚇 Liziba Station — Take Metro Line 2 to see the train pass through a building
- Get off at Liziba, walk to the observation platform below
- Watch trains enter the building (every 3-5 minutes)
- Take a video — this is the most viral Chongqing clip on social media
Afternoon (12:00 PM - 5:30 PM)
🏯 Ciqikou Ancient Town (磁器口)
- Take Metro Line 1 to Ciqikou Station
- Explore the stone streets, back alleys, and Baolun Temple
- Graze on street food: Chen Mahua, Bobo Chicken, tofu pudding
- 2-3 hours
🚡 Yangtze River Cable Car (长江索道)
- Take Metro to Xiaoshimen Station, walk to the cable car
- One-way ride across the Yangtze River (5 minutes)
- Time it for late afternoon / golden hour
Evening (6:00 PM - 10:00 PM)
🏮 Hongya Cave (洪崖洞)
- Walk from Jiefangbei (10 minutes)
- Watch the lights turn on (~6:30 PM)
- Walk through the building from top to bottom
- Cross Qiansimen Bridge for the classic photo
🌶️ Chongqing Hotpot Dinner
- Try a local restaurant near Jiefangbei
- Order half-and-half broth (鸳鸯锅) if you're not used to extreme spice

Day 2: Deep Dive into the City
Morning (9:00 AM - 12:00 PM)
🏛️ Chaotianmen Square — Where the Yangtze and Jialing rivers meet
- Walk to the tip of the peninsula to see the two rivers converging
- The color difference between the rivers is visible
🛗 Chaotianmen Escalator — Asia's longest outdoor escalator (112m)
- ¥2 per ride, connects river level to upper city
Afternoon (12:00 PM - 5:00 PM)

- Free park with a viewing tower
- 360-degree views of the city — less crowded than tourist spots
- Best at sunset
🍢 Night Market: Minzhu Road (民主路) for grilled skewers (烧烤)
- Lamb, chicken, tofu on sticks
- Cumin and chili powder
- Pair with local Chongqing beer
Day 3: Wulong Karst Day Trip
Full Day (6:00 AM - 9:00 PM)
🕳️ Wulong Karst National Geology Park
- Take the 7:00 AM high-speed train from Chongqing North Station → Wulong (~2 hours)
- Shuttle bus to Three Natural Bridges (天生三桥) scenic area
- Walk down into the massive sinkhole valley
- See the three enormous natural stone arches
- Visit the Transformers 4 filming location
- Optional: Furong Cave (芙蓉洞) if time permits
- Return train ~6:00 PM, back in Chongqing by 8:00 PM

Alternative Day 3: Chongqing Deep Dive
If you prefer to stay in the city:
☕ Morning: Explore Erling area — local neighborhoods, coffee shops, less touristy 🍜 Afternoon: Xuetianwan (学田湾) xiaomian street — the best noodle shops in the city 🛍️ Evening: Guanyinqiao (观音桥) — local shopping district, less touristy than Jiefangbei

Tips
- Book Wulong train tickets in advance — popular departure times sell out, especially on weekends
- Eat hotpot on Day 1 or 2 — your stomach needs time to adjust. Don't eat it on your last night.
- Don't over-schedule — Chongqing's terrain makes everything take longer than expected. Leave buffer time.
- Wear comfortable shoes — you will climb hundreds of stairs over 3 days
- Bring a portable charger — you'll use your phone constantly for navigation and photos
- Carry tissues and hand sanitizer — many street stalls don't provide them
