Zhangjiajie's attractions are spread across a wide area. Here's how to navigate between the city, the National Forest Park, and the Glass Bridge.

Recommended Itinerary Transport

Day 1: National Forest Park

  1. Bus from city → Wulingyuan (¥12, 40 min)
  2. Walk to park entrance
  3. Bailong Elevator up → Yuanjiajie
  4. Shuttle bus between zones
  5. Cable car or walk down
  6. Bus back to city (or stay in Wulingyuan)

Day 2: Tianmen Mountain

  1. Walk to cable car station in city center
  2. Cable car up (30 min)
  3. Walk around mountaintop
  4. Shuttle bus down the 99-turn road
  5. Walk back to hotel

Day 3: Glass Bridge

  1. Car hire from city (¥300-400, full day)
  2. Drive to Grand Canyon (1 hour)
  3. Walk the bridge + canyon
  4. Return to city

Pro Tips

  1. Stay in Wulingyuan for the park — saves 1.5 hours of commuting per day. Move to city hotel for Tianmen Mountain day.

  2. Hire a car for the Glass Bridge — public transport is infrequent and slow. A car gives you flexibility.

  3. The park shuttle buses are free — don't pay for a private guide who offers to "drive you around the park."

  4. Download Amap — Google Maps doesn't work. Amap handles Zhangjiajie's winding mountain roads well.

  5. Bring motion sickness medicine — the roads to the Glass Bridge are very winding.
